Pakistan and Bangladesh Enter a New Era of Relations: Bangladeshi High Commissioner

Report By Syed Farzand Ali

Bangladesh’s High Commissioner to Pakistan, Mohammad Iqbal Hussain, has stated that a new phase of relations between Pakistan and Bangladesh has begun, focusing on trade and cultural exchange.

Speaking to the media in Peshawar, the High Commissioner emphasized that business and cultural ties between the two nations are set to strengthen, opening new avenues of cooperation.

High Commissioner Iqbal Hussain highlighted that Pakistan and Bangladesh have recently signed a trade agreement for rice exports. Additionally, Bangladesh is keen on importing sugar from Pakistan, while there is a growing demand in Bangladesh for Pakistani fabric exports.

To further boost economic ties, two Pakistani trade delegations are set to visit Dhaka in the coming months. The High Commissioner also pointed out a major challenge in trade and travel— the absence of direct flights between the two countries. He assured that efforts are being made to establish direct flights between Pakistan and Bangladesh to facilitate business and tourism.

During his visit to various regions of Pakistan, Iqbal Hussain noted the deep historical ties between the two nations. He mentioned that wherever he traveled in Pakistan, he frequently heard references to the Grand Trunk (GT) Road, highlighting its historical significance in connecting South Asian countries.

The revival of diplomatic and economic relations between Pakistan and Bangladesh signals a positive shift in regional cooperation. With trade agreements, potential direct flights, and stronger cultural exchanges, both nations are poised to enhance their bilateral relations in the coming years.
