Pakistan and Belarus Agree to Deepen Cooperation Across Key Sectors
Pakistan and Belarus have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations by expanding collaboration across multiple sectors including agriculture, food security, industry, trade, and defense.
The agreement was reached during a high-level meeting between Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif and Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko held in Minsk on Friday. The two leaders emphasized the importance of building a long-term, strategic partnership that reflects the evolving needs of both nations.
A major highlight of the discussions was the decision to deploy 150,000 skilled Pakistani professionals to Belarus, where they will support various sectors and contribute to Belarus’s economic development. A comprehensive framework to implement this initiative is expected to be developed in the coming weeks.
The leaders also agreed to enhance joint efforts in the manufacturing of agricultural machinery and electric buses, underscoring the shared objective of promoting technological cooperation and sustainable development.
Both sides further expressed interest in expanding business-to-business engagements, boosting investment opportunities, and fostering innovation in food security systems. The two countries will also work to broaden cooperation in defense technologies and training programs, reinforcing trust and mutual support in strategic areas.
Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif noted the positive outcomes of the eighth meeting of the Pakistan-Belarus Joint Ministerial Commission, as well as the progress made during the visit of a high-level inter-ministerial delegation from Pakistan to Belarus last year.
In a social media post following the meeting, PM Shahbaz wrote:
“We reviewed the entire spectrum of our bilateral cooperation, including political, trade, investment, and people-to-people contacts. Key takeaways include an agreement to send over 150,000 highly skilled Pakistani workers to Belarus, joint ventures in electric bus and agricultural machinery manufacturing, and enhanced agricultural cooperation — all of which will elevate our historic friendship into a sustainable partnership.”
He further stated that both leaders share a deep commitment to “taking Pakistan-Belarus ties to unprecedented new heights.”
