ISLAMABAD — Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif has appointed Shafqat Ali Khan as Pakistan’s new ambassador to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Faisal Niaz Tirmizi as the new envoy to Russia, in a strategic move to enhance the country’s diplomatic outreach and bilateral relations.
The Foreign Ministry confirmed that the appointments were approved after a formal recommendation by Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar. Officials said the decision reflects Islamabad’s focus on expanding cooperation with two of its most influential partners.
Currently serving as the spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry, Shafqat Ali Khan brings years of diplomatic experience, having previously served as ambassador to Poland and Russia. His posting to the UAE is expected to further strengthen economic and political collaboration between Islamabad and Abu Dhabi.
Faisal Niaz Tirmizi, Pakistan’s outgoing ambassador to the UAE, will now represent Islamabad in Moscow. Diplomatic sources say his expertise in strategic affairs will be instrumental in advancing Pakistan–Russia cooperation in areas such as energy, defense, and trade.
According to government officials, the reshuffle is aligned with Pakistan’s foreign policy strategy to deepen regional partnerships, secure investment opportunities, and strengthen its presence in key global capitals.
