Lahore — Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has ordered the deployment of Pakistan Army troops in six districts to support civil administration in rescue and relief operations.
The army has been called in for Lahore, Kasur, Sialkot, Faisalabad, Narowal, and Okara, where heavy rains have raised serious flood risks.
Following requests from local administrations, the Punjab Home Department officially sought assistance from the Federal Interior Ministry for troop deployment. Military aviation and other resources will also be provided where necessary.
The Pakistan Army will work jointly with the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), Rescue 1122, Civil Defense, Police, and local authorities, ensuring coordinated relief efforts on the ground. The exact number of troops in each district will be decided after consultations with district officials.
According to a Punjab Home Department spokesperson, all provincial agencies are on 24-hour alert to safeguard lives and property.
“Every possible measure is being taken to protect citizens. The army’s presence will strengthen the response and prevent any untoward situation,” the spokesperson stated.
