Pakistan Army Warns of Serious Consequences if India Violates Indus Waters Treaty
Report by Safarti Tarjuman Local Desk
Pakistan’s military has strongly cautioned India that any attempt to breach the Indus Waters Treaty would force Pakistan to assume full control of all six rivers flowing from Kashmir. In an exclusive interview with Al Jazeera, Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Lt. Gen. Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, stressed that Kashmir is internationally recognized as a disputed region, and no unilateral decision by India will be accepted.
He stated that any violation of the water-sharing agreement would not only be an act of hostility but also a direct threat to regional peace. In such a scenario, Pakistan would no longer be bound by the treaty’s terms and would assert its right over all river resources originating in Kashmir.
Lt. Gen. Ahmed Sharif also spoke about Pakistan’s strategic response to recent Indian aggression. He said that India’s military efforts had failed and that Pakistan’s defense forces demonstrated professionalism and unity. He noted that India lost six aircraft during its response and that Pakistan had precisely hit 26 strategic targets while ensuring minimal collateral damage.
He accused Indian authorities of spreading misinformation and fabricating events to manipulate public opinion. He pointed out false claims made by India regarding damage to religious sites and key installations in Pakistan, calling them baseless and part of a propaganda campaign.
The ISPR chief emphasized that water is a lifeline for Pakistan’s 240 million citizens and cannot be used as a weapon. Any effort to restrict Pakistan’s access to water would be considered a hostile act with severe consequences.
He also condemned human rights violations in Indian-administered Kashmir and highlighted the continued persecution of minorities across India. He reiterated that durable peace in the region can only be achieved through justice, dialogue, and adherence to international laws.
Touching on broader humanitarian concerns, Lt. Gen. Ahmed Sharif denounced the ongoing genocide in Gaza and called for global action to stop the atrocities. He said that peace cannot exist without fairness, and Pakistan remains committed to defending the rights of oppressed people worldwide.
The Pakistan Army, he concluded, is always ready to protect the nation’s sovereignty and will never compromise on the country’s national interests, including its water resources and territorial integrity.
