KUALA LUMPUR — Pakistan and Australia have agreed to deepen cooperation in trade, education, and diplomatic engagement following high-level talks at the ASEAN Regional Forum
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar met Australian Foreign Minister Senator Penny Wong on the sidelines of the 32nd ASEAN Regional Forum Ministerial Meeting in Kuala Lumpur. Both leaders described their exchange as “productive and forward-looking,” underscoring a shared commitment to advance the longstanding partnership between the two countries.
During the meeting, both sides agreed to boost bilateral trade, which currently stands at $1.186 billion. They also prioritized expanding academic partnerships between universities to encourage student exchanges, joint research, and institutional collaboration. Officials highlighted education as a strategic sector for sustainable and long-term engagement
Deputy Prime Minister Dar emphasized the role of the Pakistani diaspora in Australia and the enduring cultural connection through cricket as vital links between the two nations. Both ministers acknowledged these people-to-people ties as essential to fostering mutual understanding, goodwill, and closer diplomatic cooperation.
The meeting concluded with a shared resolve to increase high-level political exchanges to advance bilateral cooperation. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to a stable and mutually beneficial relationship, signaling strong diplomatic alignment in the Indo-Pacific region.
