Pakistan, Belarus Vow to Strengthen Parliamentary Ties for Mutual Progress

 

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif held a high-level meeting with the top parliamentary leadership of Belarus on Friday, reaffirming both nations’ commitment to expand inter-parliamentary cooperation for advancing shared goals.

During his official visit, the Prime Minister met with Natalya Kochanova, Chairperson of the Council of the Republic, and Igor Sergeyenko, Chairman of the House of Representatives. The discussions emphasized the need for increased engagement between the legislative institutions of Pakistan and Belarus.

Prime Minister Shehbaz highlighted the value of parliamentary diplomacy as a means to foster long-term collaboration across multiple fields, including trade, education, technology, and people-to-people connections. He noted that enhanced dialogue between lawmakers could contribute to stronger bilateral ties and policy alignment on regional and global matters.

In response, the Belarusian leaders expressed enthusiasm for strengthening ties with Pakistan’s parliament, proposing regular exchange visits, dialogue platforms, and legislative collaboration to address global challenges and explore new opportunities.

The meeting was attended by prominent members of the Pakistani delegation, including Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan, and Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal.

Both sides pledged to work towards institutionalizing parliamentary linkages and fostering legislative partnerships to bring greater depth to the Pakistan-Belarus relationship.
