Islamabad: Pakistan and China on Friday reaffirmed their commitment to deepening their “All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership”, pledging enhanced cooperation in economic, security, and regional stability frameworks during the 6th Pakistan–China Foreign Ministers’ Strategic Dialogue in Islamabad.

The dialogue was co-chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China.

Both sides comprehensively reviewed their partnership, including progress on CPEC Phase-II, cooperation in trade, ICT, agriculture, industrial development, and mineral resources, as well as people-to-people exchanges.

During his three-day visit, Wang Yi held separate meetings with President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir.

  • President Zardari lauded Beijing’s principled stance on Jammu and Kashmir.
  • Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stressed the need to fast-track CPEC Phase-II projects.
  • Army Chief Munir and Wang Yi discussed regional security, defense collaboration, and counter terrorism efforts, reaffirming closer coordination at regional and global forums.

The Foreign Office also highlighted the Pakistan–China–Afghanistan Trilateral Meeting held in Kabul on August 20, where the three countries pledged to intensify counter terrorism coordination, facilitate trade and transit, and extend CPEC projects into Afghanistan.

Pakistan welcomed the Court of Arbitration’s ruling on the Indus Waters Treaty, calling it a landmark victory for Pakistan’s water rights.

The Foreign Office also:

  • Condemned Israeli rhetoric about creating a “Greater Israel,” terming it a violation of international law and UN resolutions.
  • Rejected Indian accusations of nuclear blackmail, stressing Pakistan’s responsible nuclear posture under strict civilian oversight, while warning that any aggression would be met with a swift and proportionate response.
