BRUSSELS — A high-level parliamentary delegation from Pakistan, led by former Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, has begun a series of key diplomatic engagements in Brussels, reaffirming Islamabad’s commitment to regional peace, rules-based dialogue, and responsible diplomacy amid heightened tensions with India.

During the visit, the delegation presented Pakistan’s position on the deteriorating security environment in South Asia, citing India’s escalating military posturing and violations of international norms, including the unilateral suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty. Bilawal described the move as a “threat to treaty-based global order” with far-reaching implications for peace and environmental security.

In meetings with European Union officials, including Bernd Lange, Chair of the European Parliament’s International Trade Committee, Bilawal emphasized the importance of insulating trade and development cooperation from geopolitical instability. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s ongoing commitment under the GSP+ framework and its pursuit of mutually beneficial economic ties with the EU.

The delegation also held talks with senior Belgian officials, including Birgit Stevens of the Foreign Ministry and legislators from the Belgian Parliament. Discussions focused on strengthening institutional mechanisms, multilateral cooperation, and addressing regional security threats. Belgian lawmakers welcomed the opportunity to expand parliamentary dialogue with Pakistan.

At a high-level roundtable at the Egmont – Royal Institute for International Relations, Bilawal delivered a keynote speech warning against India’s “revisionist ideology” and the regional risks posed by military adventurism. He stressed the urgent need for global cooperation on climate security and treaty preservation, warning against setting dangerous precedents.

Throughout the engagements, the Pakistani delegation reiterated Islamabad’s stance on peaceful resolution of disputes, adherence to international law, and opposition to cross-border terrorism. The visit underscored Pakistan’s active diplomacy to counter disinformation and present its narrative to global stakeholders.
