Pakistan Expresses Alarm Over Rising Islamophobia in UK Media and Politics

Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) has expressed serious concerns over what it described as growing Islamophobic and racially charged rhetoric in the United Kingdom, which unfairly targets the British Pakistani community.

In a statement issued Monday, the MOFA Spokesperson highlighted the historic and constructive relationship between the two nations. The British Pakistani diaspora serves as a strong bond linking our two nations,” the Spokesperson remarked.

The Spokesperson emphasized the pivotal role played by the 1.7 million-strong British Pakistani community in the UK. “This diaspora has made invaluable contributions across diverse fields, from healthcare to public service. British Pakistanis have also represented their communities with distinction in roles such as MPs, mayors, and councillors, while enriching British culture through their achievements in arts, sports, and cuisine,” she noted.

Highlighting their historic sacrifices, the Spokesperson added, “During the World Wars, thousands of Muslim soldiers from what is now Pakistan fought for the cause of democracy under the British Indian Army, demonstrating their unwavering commitment to freedom.”

The MOFA called attention to the harmful nature of stereotyping an entire community based on isolated incidents. “It is unjust and unacceptable to demonize such a diverse and accomplished community due to the actions of a few individuals.

This approach undermines the values of inclusivity and mutual respect,” the statement read. Pakistan underscored its commitment to further strengthening its relationship with the UK, rooted in shared history and mutual benefit. The Spokesperson urged respect and recognition for the positive role played by British Pakistanis in fostering a harmonious and prosperous society.

This declaration of support by Pakistan comes amid heightened concerns over Islamophobic narratives globally, reinforcing its stance against discrimination and in favor of celebrating diversity.
