Pakistan High Commission in Singapore Celebrates 85th Pakistan Day

 

The Pakistan High Commission in Singapore hosted a reception on Thursday. The event brought together distinguished guests, including Dr. Koh Poh Koon, Senior Minister, who attended as the guest of honor. Also present were Members of Parliament Louis Ng and Dr. Lim Wee Kiak.

The celebration began with the playing of the national anthems of both Pakistan and Singapore, followed by a screening of a documentary showcasing Pakistan’s diverse cultural heritage, historical milestones, and national achievements. The event continued with the symbolic cutting of the Pakistan Day cake by the guest of honor and other prominent dignitaries.

In her speech, High Commissioner Rabia Shafiq reflected on the historical importance of the Pakistan Day Resolution of March 23, 1940, which led to the creation of Pakistan. She expressed satisfaction over the growing relationship between Pakistan and Singapore, highlighting the milestone of the upcoming 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries in 2026. She also acknowledged the valuable contributions of the Pakistani community in Singapore, noting their pivotal role in enhancing the cultural and economic connections between the two nations.

Dr. Koh Poh Koon congratulated Pakistan on its National Day and praised the Pakistani diaspora for their vital contributions to Singapore’s development, particularly in sectors such as trade, healthcare, and technology. He emphasized the opportunities for further strengthening bilateral relations between Pakistan and Singapore, especially in areas such as food security, digital economy, and trade.

The reception was attended by a diverse audience, including diplomats, business leaders, members of academia, media personnel, and the vibrant Pakistani community residing in Singapore. Guests were treated to an exquisite selection of traditional Pakistani cuisine, reflecting the cultural richness of the country.

This celebration not only marked Pakistan’s National Day but also underscored the continuing importance of strengthening ties between Pakistan and Singapore, with both nations eager to collaborate further across various sectors for mutual benefit.
