ISLAMABAD – Marking the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture, Pakistan reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to eradicating torture and upholding human dignity, calling for global accountability for violations in occupied territories, including Kashmir and Palestine.
In an official statement issued Thursday, the Foreign Office spokesperson underscored Pakistan’s dedication to international human rights norms and the moral imperatives rooted in Islamic teachings, which denounce all forms of cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment.
“Islam emphasizes justice, compassion, and the sanctity of human life,” the spokesperson said. “Acts of torture and abuse are fundamentally incompatible with the values we uphold.”
The statement noted that Pakistan continues to advance legal reforms and institutional safeguards to ensure accountability and uphold the rule of law, while also enhancing support systems for victims, including medical, legal, and psychological assistance.
Expressing deep concern over the global use of torture as a tool of repression, the Foreign Office specifically highlighted the ongoing abuses in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) and the Occupied Palestinian Territories.
“Victims in these conflict zones face some of the worst forms of state-sponsored violence and oppression, aimed at silencing their right to self-determination,” the spokesperson said.
Pakistan called on the international community to condemn and act against systematic torture perpetrated by occupying powers.
“On this day, we stand in solidarity with the victims of torture around the world and urge global institutions to ensure justice and end impunity for human rights violators,” the spokesperson emphasized.
