Pakistan Rejects Indian Minister’s Remarks on Kashmir, Calls for Self-Determination
Report by Syed Farzand Ali
Pakistan has firmly rejected statements made by India’s External Affairs Minister regarding Jammu and Kashmir, emphasizing that no electoral or economic measures can replace the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination.
Foreign Office Spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan, during a press briefing, asserted that Jammu and Kashmir remains an internationally recognized disputed territory. He stated that the region’s final status must be determined through a UN-supervised plebiscite, as mandated by Security Council resolutions. He urged India to withdraw its forces from the occupied territories and work toward a peaceful resolution in accordance with international law.
Pakistan’s Counterterrorism Efforts and US Cooperation
The spokesperson also addressed Pakistan’s role in the arrest and extradition of ISIS-K commander Muhammad Sharifullah to the United States. He highlighted Pakistan’s longstanding intelligence cooperation with the US and reaffirmed the country’s zero-tolerance policy against terrorism. The operation, conducted under UN Security Council Resolutions 1267 and 1373, was part of Pakistan’s continued efforts to combat global terrorism.
On Afghanistan, he reiterated Pakistan’s concerns regarding terrorist sanctuaries, particularly the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), and called on Afghan authorities to take decisive action against these groups.
Torkham Border Closure and Regional Diplomatic Engagements
Addressing the recent closure of the Torkham border, Khan clarified that it was due to unilateral construction by Afghan forces on the Pakistani side, followed by cross-border firing. Diplomatic efforts are ongoing to resolve the situation.
Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar is set to participate in the Extraordinary Session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers in Jeddah. Pakistan will reaffirm its unwavering support for Palestine, demand Israel’s full withdrawal from occupied territories, and advocate for the establishment of a sovereign Palestinian state with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.
Dar also held discussions with senior officials from the US, UAE, Denmark, and Azerbaijan on strengthening bilateral relations and regional cooperation. US National Security Advisor Michael Waltz conveyed President Trump’s appreciation for Pakistan’s counterterrorism efforts and its role in handling security challenges in Afghanistan.
Condemnation of Israel’s Blockade of Humanitarian Aid to Gaza
Pakistan strongly condemned Israel’s decision to block critical humanitarian aid to Gaza during Ramadan. Khan called it a flagrant violation of international law and urged the global community to ensure unrestricted access to essential supplies for millions of Palestinians facing dire conditions.
Pakistan continues to push for accountability regarding Israel’s actions, emphasizing the urgent need for a ceasefire and lasting peace in the region.
