ISLAMABAD — The National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) on Tuesday confirmed Pakistan’s 14th polio case of the year, detected in North Waziristan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to the Polio Reference Laboratory, the newly affected child is 19 months old. This case raises the national total to 14 polio cases in 2025, with a provincial breakdown of eight in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, four in Sindh, and one each in Punjab and Gilgit-Baltistan.

In response, health authorities announced a special polio vaccination campaign targeting 11 union councils of North Waziristan to prevent further spread of the disease.

Health authorities have urged parents to ensure their children receive polio drops in every immunization round. They also stressed the importance of completing the full routine immunization schedule to protect children against polio and other vaccine-preventable diseases.

Pakistan remains among the few countries worldwide where the poliovirus still circulates, underscoring the critical need for public vigilance and cooperation in eradication efforts.
