Pakistan, Russia Seek Stronger Bilateral Cooperation in Energy and Trade

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif met with Russia’s First Deputy Minister for Energy, Pavel Sorokin, in Islamabad to discuss ways to enhance bilateral ties, particularly in the energy, trade, and investment sectors.
During the meeting, PM Shahbaz Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to deepening its partnership with Russia, emphasizing the potential for expanding diplomatic, economic, and investment ties. He highlighted his productive discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit, expressing optimism for further collaboration.
The prime minister also reiterated his invitation to President Putin for an official visit to Pakistan, underscoring the importance of high-level engagements in advancing mutual interests.
Expanding Energy Cooperation
PM Shahbaz Sharif pointed out that Pakistan and Russia share significant potential for cooperation in the energy sector, with opportunities for joint ventures and technology exchange.
Deputy Minister Pavel Sorokin welcomed Pakistan’s interest in strengthening energy cooperation, stating that Russia is keen to work closely with Pakistan in energy-related projects. He expressed gratitude to the Government of Pakistan for its hospitality and commitment to fostering long-term collaboration.
This high-level engagement highlights Pakistan’s strategic approach toward strengthening ties with Russia, particularly in energy security, economic growth, and regional cooperation.
