ISLAMABAD — Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif held a telephone conversation with the Ambassador of Saudi Arabia, Nawaf bin Saeed Al Malkiy, on Monday night to discuss the rapidly evolving situation in the Middle East following missile attacks on a U.S. military base in Qatar.
The Prime Minister expressed grave concern over Iran’s recent missile strikes targeting al-Udeid Air Base, emphasizing the potential threat to regional peace and stability.
“Shehbaz Sharif urged that all efforts must be directed toward de-escalating tensions and ensuring peace in the Gulf region,” the PM Office said in a statement.
Ambassador Al Malkiy expressed gratitude for the Prime Minister’s timely outreach and acknowledged Pakistan’s longstanding role as a voice for peace and constructive dialogue in the Islamic world. He stressed that coordination between Islamabad and Riyadh remains vital in preventing further deterioration of the security situation in the Gulf.
Both sides agreed on the urgency of enhanced cooperation to ensure a peaceful resolution of the current crisis. They committed to maintaining close contact as part of a broader regional diplomatic strategy.
The call comes amid heightened tensions following Iran’s retaliatory missile strikes against U.S. assets in the Gulf, particularly the strategic air base in Qatar, a key hub for American military operations. The attacks have raised global concern over a wider conflict in the Middle East.
