Pakistan, Turkiye Strengthen Energy Ties with Focus on Renewables and Mineral Sector

Pakistan and Turkiye have agreed to deepen bilateral cooperation in the energy sector, particularly in the field of renewable energy, during high-level talks held in Islamabad. The agreement was reached during a meeting between Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif and a Turkish delegation led by Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar.

During the meeting at the Prime Minister House, Shahbaz Sharif reaffirmed the historic and brotherly relationship between the two nations, expressing optimism that recent diplomatic engagements, including President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s visit to Pakistan, will significantly boost economic ties.

Prime Minister Sharif welcomed Turkiye’s active participation in the Pakistan Minerals Investment Summit, noting the country’s keen interest in expanding economic cooperation, particularly in offshore oil and gas exploration. “There are vast opportunities available to expand economic relations between the two countries,” the prime minister stated.

The Turkish Minister of Energy expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s ongoing energy reforms and assured support in sharing Turkiye’s experience in successful energy sector privatization and policy development. He emphasized that these reforms would enhance Pakistan’s attractiveness to foreign investors.

Highlighting Turkiye’s growing interest in Pakistan’s mineral sector, Minister Bayraktar said the delegation had gained valuable insight into Pakistan’s untapped potential in rare earth mineral exploration. “Our participation in the Pakistan Minerals Investment Summit gave us a clear understanding of the vast opportunities in this sector,” he said.

The meeting was attended by key Pakistani officials, including Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Minister for Power Awais Leghari, Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik, and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Fatemi.

This renewed commitment to energy collaboration marks a significant step forward in strengthening Pakistan-Turkiye economic relations, with both countries aiming to leverage each other’s strengths in sustainable energy and resource development.
