Pakistan, Turkmenistan Strengthen Bilateral Ties, Highlight Neutrality for Global Peace
Report by Syed Farzand Ali
Pakistan and Turkmenistan reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening diplomatic relations and promoting global peace through neutrality. A high-level conference held in Islamabad brought together diplomats, scholars, and policymakers to discuss regional cooperation and economic partnerships.
The event, organized by the Embassy of Turkmenistan in collaboration with the Institute of Peace and Diplomatic Studies (IPDS), underscored the long-standing friendship between the two nations. Turkmenistan’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Atadjan Movlamov, and Dr. Farhat Asif, President of IPDS, highlighted the significance of neutrality in fostering international stability.
Turkmenistan’s policy of neutrality, twice recognized by the United Nations General Assembly, has positioned the country as a model for peace diplomacy. Pakistan continues to support this diplomatic stance, recognizing its role in conflict resolution and regional security.
As part of this commitment, 2025 has been designated the International Year of Peace and Trust, an initiative spearheaded by Turkmenistan and co-sponsored by 86 countries, including Pakistan. The initiative reflects a shared vision for promoting dialogue-driven solutions to global challenges.
Pakistan and Turkmenistan have signed over 60 international agreements, enhancing cooperation in trade, energy, and infrastructure. The Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline, known as the “Peace Pipeline,” remains a key project aimed at strengthening regional energy security and economic stability.
Beyond energy, Turkmenistan has proposed collaboration with Pakistan in fiber-optic connectivity and electricity transmission. The possibility of integrating Turkmenistan with the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) presents further opportunities for expanding trade and economic ties.
The IPDS has played a crucial role in fostering academic and research collaborations between the two nations. In recognition of its contributions, IPDS was honored with the Magtymguly Pyragy International Prize for its role in strengthening diplomatic and cultural exchanges.
As the conference concluded, speakers emphasized the importance of continued diplomatic engagement and strategic cooperation. Pakistan and Turkmenistan remain committed to working together on regional stability initiatives, particularly in Afghanistan, to ensure lasting peace and prosperity.
Security, trade, and connectivity remain at the core of Pakistan-Turkmenistan relations, with both nations focused on leveraging their strategic partnership for economic growth and regional development.
