Report By Safarti Tarjuman International Desk
Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly organize the Second International Date Palm Festival 2025 in Pakistan.
The agreement was signed between Pakistan’s Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research, Rana Tanveer Hussain, and Secretary-General of the Khalifa International Award Dr. Abdelouahhab Zaid. The signing took place during a grand ceremony at the 17th Khalifa International Award event at the Emirates Palace, held under the patronage of UAE Vice President and Deputy Prime Minister Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
The event celebrated global excellence in agricultural research and innovation. Among the awardees was Dr. Ghulam Sarwar Markhand, a distinguished Pakistani scientist, who received top honors in the “Influential Figure” category for his outstanding contributions to sustainable agriculture.
Minister Rana Tanveer applauded the UAE’s vision in promoting sustainable farming practices and international cooperation in food security. “This partnership demonstrates Pakistan’s commitment to agricultural innovation and acknowledges our shared goal of building a resilient farming future,” he stated.
He emphasized the deep-rooted agricultural ties between Pakistan and the UAE, highlighting their joint efforts to promote research, climate-resilient farming, and global food security.
Prominent figures recognized at the ceremony also included Pakistan’s Ambassador to the UAE, Faisal Niaz Tirmizi, and UAE’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Hamad Obaid Ibrahim Salem Alzaabi, for their roles in enhancing agricultural diplomacy between the two nations.
The upcoming International Date Palm Festival 2025 in Pakistan will provide a global platform for researchers, producers, and industry experts to showcase innovations in date palm cultivation, processing, and trade.
