Pakistan Urges UN to Act Against Indian Oppression in Kashmir
Report By Safarti Tarjuman International Desk
Pakistan has urged the United Nations and the global community to take immediate action against India’s continued human rights violations in Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), describing the situation as “criminal oppression and state terrorism.”
Speaking during the official launch of the Victims of Terrorism Associations Network (VoTAN) by the UN Office of Counter-Terrorism, Jawad Ajmal, Counsellor at Pakistan’s Mission to the UN, called on the world to hold India accountable for ongoing abuses in the disputed territory.
Pakistan Denounces Indian Actions in Kashmir
Ajmal emphasized that no statements can cover up the current wave of state-led violence against Kashmiris.
He called for the urgent implementation of UN Security Council resolutions that guarantee the right to self-determination for the Kashmiri people through a fair and impartial plebiscite.
India-Pakistan Diplomatic Clash at UN
Tensions flared at the UN meeting when India’s Deputy Permanent Representative, Yojna Patel, accused Pakistan of misusing the platform to spread “baseless propaganda.” She also alleged Pakistan’s involvement in supporting terrorism.
Pakistan firmly rejected the accusations. Ajmal reiterated that 900,000 Indian troops are enforcing a brutal occupation in Kashmir, making civilians victims of extreme state-sponsored violence.
“The people of Kashmir deserve global attention for their decades-long suffering,” he said.
Pakistan Condemns All Forms of Terrorism
Pakistan also condemned the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, expressing sympathy for the victims and support for their families. Ajmal affirmed Pakistan’s commitment to fighting terrorism and stated that Pakistan joined the UN Security Council in condemning the Pahalgam incident.
He highlighted Pakistan’s role as a major victim of terrorism, suffering over 80,000 deaths in two decades.
Evidence of External Involvement in Terrorist Attacks
Ajmal referred to a deadly terrorist attack in March 2025, where Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) militants targeted the Jaffer Express train, resulting in 30 civilian deaths.
He stated, “Pakistan has credible evidence that this attack received external support,” clearly hinting at Indian involvement.
Need for Global Consensus and Cooperation
Ajmal called for a global definition of terrorism, emphasizing the importance of addressing state-sponsored terrorism and respecting legitimate struggles for freedom.
He warned about the use of social media and the dark web in spreading extremism and hate, urging the UN to take steps against digital disinformation campaigns.
“Terrorism must be condemned in all its forms — whether right-wing, religious, racial, or state-sponsored,” he said.
He concluded by calling on the international community to adopt a victim-centered approach that is consistent, fair, and free from political bias.
