Pakistan Welcomes Russia-Ukraine Ceasefire, Calls for Lasting Peace
Pakistan has welcomed the newly agreed limited ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine, ensuring the protection of energy infrastructure and safe navigation in the Black Sea. Foreign Office spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan acknowledged the role of the U.S. administration in facilitating the agreement and expressed hope for a broader, permanent resolution through diplomatic efforts.
Reaffirming Pakistan’s neutral stance, Khan highlighted the country’s friendly relations with both Russia and Ukraine. He emphasized the need for continued dialogue, an immediate end to hostilities, and a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
Pakistan has strongly condemned Israel’s repeated airstrikes in Syria, calling them a violation of international law and Syrian sovereignty. The Foreign Office stressed that sustainable peace in Syria requires political unity, national reconciliation, and inclusive governance.
On the situation in Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, Pakistan has denounced the Indian authorities’ raids on the residences of Hurriyat leaders. The spokesperson urged India to respect the fundamental rights of Kashmiris, including their right to self-determination.
Response to UN Statement on Balochistan
Pakistan has criticized the recent UN statement demanding the release of Baloch protesters, calling it unbalanced and dismissing it as an attempt to downplay terrorist activities. Khan accused violent elements of disrupting public services and collaborating with extremist groups.
He cited the unlawful storming of Quetta’s District Hospital, where protesters seized the bodies of five terrorists killed in the Jaffar Express hostage rescue operation. Pakistan warned that selective criticism by international bodies could embolden extremist groups and undermine counterterrorism efforts.
Pakistan-Afghanistan Bilateral Cooperation
During a recent visit to Kabul, Pakistan’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, Ambassador Mohammad Sadiq, met Afghan Acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi to discuss security, trade, and economic cooperation. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening diplomatic ties and ensuring regional peace.
Rejection of U.S. Sanctions and Congressional Bill
Pakistan has dismissed the Pakistan-specific bill introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives, stating that it does not reflect the official position of the U.S. government. The Foreign Office emphasized that Pakistan-U.S. relations are built on mutual respect and cooperation.
Pakistan also rejected recent U.S. export restrictions on 19 Pakistani companies, calling the move unjustified and politically motivated. The spokesperson stated that such measures hinder Pakistan’s technological growth and economic progress.
Clarification on Reports of Pakistani Journalists Visiting Israel
The Foreign Office addressed reports of Pakistani journalists traveling to Israel, reaffirming that Pakistani passports are not valid for travel to Israel. The government is investigating the claims and reviewing the legal implications of such visits.
Pakistan continues to advocate for diplomatic solutions, regional stability, and counterterrorism cooperation while urging global institutions to adopt a balanced approach to international conflicts.
