
Pakistan Welcomes UN Decision to Drop Country Reference from Children & Armed Conflict Report

ISLAMABAD — Pakistan has welcomed the United Nations Secretary General’s decision to exclude any reference to Pakistan in the latest Annual Report on Children and Armed Conflict, describing it as a significant acknowledgment of the country’s ongoing efforts to protect child rights.
According to a statement from the Foreign Office, this outcome reflects Pakistan’s constructive, sustained, and intensive engagement with the United Nations, particularly with the Office of the Special Representative of the Secretary General for Children and Armed Conflict (SRSG-CAAC).
The statement underscored that this move reflects international appreciation of Pakistan’s robust legal, policy, and institutional measures aimed at safeguarding children’s rights and welfare. “It affirms Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to align its national frameworks with international standards and best practices to protect children impacted by conflict and violence,” the spokesperson added.
Reaffirming Pakistan’s pledge to continue close cooperation with the UN and other international partners, the spokesperson noted the country’s determination to ensure a safer, brighter future for its younger generations.
Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar also responded to the UN decision via a post on X (formerly Twitter), saying that Pakistan fully supports the removal of references to the country from the report.
