Pakistan women’s cricket captain, Fatima Sana, is ready to lead her team with a fearless approach in the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. Addressing the media, Sana reflected on the challenges the team has faced in past tournaments, particularly during the powerplay, where they have often lost early wickets and struggled to post competitive totals.

In her candid remarks, Sana highlighted the team’s previous difficulties in chasing targets over 120 runs, emphasizing the need for a positive mindset, especially in the crucial first six overs. “Top teams capitalize on these initial overs, and we aim to do the same,” she stated.

The captain expressed confidence in the younger players who have recently shown promise, noting that the game has significantly evolved since her debut in 2019. “Scores are much higher now, and batters have more freedom. We’re adapting our strategy to stay competitive,” she added.

Key players such as Gull Feroza, who shone in the Asia Cup, and opener Muneeba Ali, who performed admirably against South Africa, are crucial to the team’s success. Sana encouraged them to target a strike rate above 100 to enhance their scoring potential.

In the bowling department, Sana praised Sadia Iqbal, currently ranked #3 in ICC T20 rankings, and Nashra Sandhu for their outstanding performances. She also mentioned the promising talents of leg spinners Syeda Arooba Shah and Tuba Hassan, who bring energy and skill to the squad.

Sana is optimistic about the blend of youth and experience within the team. Recent preparations included a fitness camp and successful performances against South Africa, where they recorded their highest-ever T20I total of 181 runs. This achievement demonstrates the effectiveness of their new approach.

As they gear up for the World Cup, Sana expressed a desire to secure as many victories as possible, despite acknowledging the challenging competition in their group, which includes defending champions Australia. “We’ve recently beaten teams like India and New Zealand, which boosts our confidence,” she noted.

With strong support from fans back home, Sana is looking forward to the T20 World Cup. “We had incredible crowds during our series in Multan, and we know the nation stands behind us. We’re eager to make our mark in this tournament,” she concluded.
