Pakistan, World Bank Strengthen Strategic Ties to Achieve Development Goals

ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and World Bank Regional Vice President for MENAAP, Ousmane Dione, have reaffirmed their shared resolve to expand strategic cooperation and achieve long-term development goals for Pakistan’s economic progress and social uplift.

The high-level meeting took place in Islamabad, where both sides expressed confidence in a stronger and future-focused partnership aligned with Pakistan’s vision for inclusive, climate-resilient, and sustainable growth

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif extended heartfelt appreciation to World Bank President Ajay Banga and former Country Director Najy Benhassine for their instrumental role in launching the new Country Partnership Framework (CPF) — a guiding roadmap that supports Pakistan’s national priorities in areas such as:

  • Clean energy transition
  • Climate change resilience
  • Human capital development
  • Institutional and governance reforms

“The CPF offers a comprehensive strategy for aligning international support with Pakistan’s development agenda,” stated the Prime Minister.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to regional peace, international law, and resolving disputes through constructive dialogue. He also thanked the World Bank for its swift support during the catastrophic 2022 floods, which helped initiate crucial recovery and rehabilitation efforts.

Mr. Ousmane Dione acknowledged the impressive progress in Pakistan’s macroeconomic recovery and commended the government’s reform agenda aimed at restoring investor confidence and accelerating growth.

> “Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s leadership is helping rebuild investor confidence and promote inclusive growth,” Mr. Dione stated.

He emphasized the bank’s long-term commitment to strengthening Pakistan’s economic resilience, sustainability, and regional connectivity through targeted financial and technical support.

Both parties agreed to intensify collaboration in the following domains:

  • Renewable energy infrastructure
  • Water resource and disaster management
  • Digital governance and innovation
  • Food security and sustainable agriculture
