Pakistani Ambassador Connects with Dubai Students, Highlights Strength of Pakistan-UAE Relations
Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Faisal Niaz Tirmizi, visited Heriot-Watt University in Dubai on Tuesday, where he delivered an impactful presentation to students and faculty on the longstanding historical and strategic ties between Pakistan and the UAE.
Celebrating Pakistan’s Rich Heritage
During his presentation, Ambassador Tirmizi captivated the audience by tracing Pakistan’s roots to some of the world’s most ancient civilizations, including the Indus Valley and Gandhara Civilizations. He emphasized Pakistan’s cultural importance in the contemporary world, highlighting the diversity and vibrancy it offers.
“With the fifth-largest population globally, and nearly 68% of our citizens under the age of 30, Pakistan has tremendous potential,” said Ambassador Tirmizi. He also highlighted the country’s unparalleled natural beauty, from the towering peaks of the Himalayas to the Karakoram and Hindu Kush ranges, which are home to five of the world’s fourteen tallest peaks above 8,000 meters.
A Legacy of Strong Pakistan-UAE Relations
The Ambassador moved on to discuss the deep-rooted relationship between Pakistan and the UAE, which spans more than seven decades. He paid tribute to the visionary leadership of Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan and Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, acknowledging their efforts in laying the foundation.
Ambassador Tirmizi also pointed out that Pakistan was the first country to officially recognize the UAE and sent its envoy before the country’s official formation in 1971. He highlighted the significant contributions of Pakistani professionals in key sectors such as banking, aviation, agriculture, and finance, which have been instrumental in the UAE’s rapid development.
Expanding Economic and Social Cooperation
On the economic front, the Ambassador underscored the vibrant and growing economic ties between the two countries. With trade reaching a substantial USD 10 billion annually and the UAE’s Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in Pakistan amounting to USD 2.9 billion, the relationship continues to thrive. Additionally, Pakistan’s 1.8 million-strong diaspora in the UAE plays a critical role in strengthening both nations’ economic and cultural connections.
Tourism and Cultural Promotion
Ambassador Tirmizi encouraged students and faculty at the university to consider visiting Pakistan, not just for its scenic landscapes but also to experience its diverse culture, rich traditions, and mouthwatering cuisine. He invited Pakistani students to bring international friends along, suggesting that such visits could help highlight Pakistan’s tourism potential and the warmth of its hospitality.
Engaging Dialogue with Students
The visit concluded with an interactive session in which students expressed great interest in the insights shared by the Ambassador. Many students showed eagerness to learn more about Pakistan’s heritage and the abundant opportunities for collaboration between the two countries.
Ambassador Tirmizi’s visit to Heriot-Watt University was a timely effort to deepen educational and cultural exchanges between Pakistan and the UAE, reinforcing the enduring bond that has existed between the two nations for over 70 years.
