Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Afghanistan’s Acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi have underscored the strategic importance of the Uzbekistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (UAP) Railway Line Project, calling for accelerated efforts to finalize its framework agreement.

In a telephone conversation held on Sunday, both leaders highlighted the UAP Railway Line as a transformative initiative for boosting regional trade and connectivity. The project is expected to strengthen economic ties between Central and South Asia by offering a direct transport corridor.
Dar and Muttaqi agreed to work closely toward the early finalization of the railway framework agreement. The Foreign Office confirmed that the discussions reflected both sides’ determination to push forward practical cooperation on critical regional infrastructure.
Acting Foreign Minister Muttaqi welcomed Pakistan’s decision to upgrade its diplomatic engagement with Afghanistan to the ambassadorial level. He also confirmed that Afghanistan would reciprocate this move, calling it a positive milestone in strengthening bilateral relations.
The ministers also reviewed progress on decisions made during Ishaq Dar’s official visit to Kabul on April 19, 2025. They reaffirmed their commitment to strengthen bilateral engagement and ensure implementation of mutually agreed initiatives.
