SINGAPORE — The High Commission of Pakistan in Singapore held a special screening of the Pakistani feature film Nayab as part of its cultural diplomacy efforts to deepen people-to-people connections and promote mutual understanding between Pakistan and Singapore.

The event welcomed members of the diplomatic community, Singaporean officials, media professionals, film industry stakeholders, and representatives of the Pakistani community, according to a press release on Thursday.

Nayab, directed by Umair Nasir Ali, tells the inspiring story of a young woman from Karachi who dreams of playing for the national cricket team, breaking through societal barriers and family expectations to pursue her passion.

In her address, Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Singapore, Rabia Shafiq, highlighted the role of cultural initiatives in bridging gaps between nations. She emphasized that Pakistani cinema has transformed in recent years, capturing the country’s diversity, resilience, and aspirations.

The screening served as a vibrant platform for showcasing Pakistan’s creative talent while encouraging dialogue through storytelling and film.

Attendees expressed their appreciation for the film’s compelling message, strong performances, and its uplifting portrayal of women’s empowerment and cultural identity.
