Pakistani Foreign Secretary Meets Iranian FM on ECO Reforms Held in Tehran
The Foreign Secretary Amna Baloch of Pakistan represented the country at the High-Level Committee (HLC) meeting on Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Reforms and Prospects of Cooperation in the Region held on Monday in Tehran.
At the meeting, Amna Baloch presented Pakistan’s perspectives on key issues related to ECO reforms. She emphasized the need for comprehensive reforms in the organization, particularly focusing on financial and budgetary matters, improving the efficiency of the secretariat, implementing an effective recruitment policy, and addressing other related issues.
As a founding member of ECO, she reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to regional connectivity and trade. She stressed the importance of the early implementation of the ECO Trade Agreement (ECOTA) and called for all member states to adopt a broader and more holistic view for its swift execution.
The Foreign Secretary also highlighted the significance of the ECO Vision 2025, which aims to enhance intra-regional trade and connectivity. She also appreciated Uzbekistan’s proposed Strategic Objectives of Cooperation 2035, acknowledging its potential to shape future cooperation.
Baloch concluded by emphasizing that through collective and coordinated efforts, ECO member states could fully realize the organization’s true potential in fostering regional development.
