Federal Minister for Information, Broadcasting, National Heritage, and Culture Attaullah Tarar met Fahrettin Altun, the Head of Communications for the Turkish Presidency, to discuss strengthening media sector collaboration, public diplomacy, and combating Islamophobia.
Key points of the meeting included:
- Countering Disinformation: Both sides explored strategies to address misinformation and foster accurate communication.
- Media Exchanges: Agreements were made for the exchange of media delegations to share knowledge and expertise.
- Joint Productions: Plans were discussed for collaborative productions, including telecasting Turkish dramas like Ertugrul Ghazi on Pakistan Television (PTV) and a joint broadcast with Turkish broadcaster TRT.
- Working Group Formation: A joint working group will be established, with focal persons from Pakistan and Turkiye, to streamline media-related initiatives.
Attaullah Tarar underscored the deep historical ties between Pakistan and Turkiye, noting that enhanced media cooperation could further strengthen public relations. Joint ventures in entertainment and tourism were highlighted as avenues for enriching cultural exchange.
Professor Fahrettin Altun expressed interest in media development in Pakistan and acknowledged the popularity of Pakistani artists in Turkiye. He praised the role of media in addressing shared challenges like Islamophobia and commended Turkish media’s coverage of the Kashmir issue.
