Pakistani Federal Minister for Interior Mohsin Naqvi held a meeting with US Chargé d’Affaires Natalie Baker and INL Country Director Line Nelson on Tuesday, focusing on enhancing Pakistan-U.S. relations and modernizing law enforcement in Pakistan.
Chargé d’Affaires Baker extended condolences for the recent martyrdom of police and Rangers personnel in Islamabad. The dialogue encompassed strengthening bilateral relations, advancing law enforcement collaboration, and preparations for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy, which Pakistan will host.
Minister Naqvi shared Pakistan’s vision to reform the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), drawing inspiration from the FBI’s operational framework. The U.S. pledged support for this initiative and agreed to aid in modernizing Pakistan’s National Forensic Agency to address contemporary challenges.
Naqvi emphasized prioritizing the enhancement of law enforcement capacities and equipping civil armed forces with advanced tools to combat terrorism and manage emergencies effectively.
In response, Baker reiterated the U.S.’s commitment to supporting these efforts, applauding Pakistan’s dedication to improving law enforcement capabilities. She also commended the recent police officers’ passing-out parade as a symbol of progress and professionalism.
The meeting underscored the robust partnership between Pakistan and the U.S., highlighting shared goals for security and cooperation. Federal Interior Secretary Khurram Ali Agha and Additional Interior Secretary Riffat Mukhtar Raja were also in attendance.
