Pakistani PM, Iran’s President Boost Ties at SCO Summit

Tianjin, China –Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with Iranian President Masoud Peshkeshian on the sidelines of the 25th Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit in Tianjin, reaffirming their commitment to deepen Pakistan–Iran relations across political, economic, and security domains.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir, and senior cabinet members, reflecting Pakistan’s strong diplomatic focus on Iran.

PM Shehbaz emphasized the historic, cultural, and religious bonds that unite both nations, calling President Peshkeshian’s recent visit to Pakistan a “turning point” welcomed warmly by the people of Pakistan.

President Peshkeshian praised Pakistan’s continued support and expressed Iran’s readiness to advance trade, economic partnerships, and political dialogue to new heights.

The two leaders underscored:

  • Expanding bilateral trade and investment opportunities.
  • Enhancing cooperation on regional security and counterterrorism.
  • Promoting dialogue and diplomacy as the preferred path for resolving regional tensions.

PM Shehbaz reiterated that Pakistan’s foreign policy is guided by peace, stability, and constructive engagement with its neighbors.

President Peshkeshian conveyed his condolences over the devastating floods in Punjab and assured that Iran stands firmly with Pakistan during this humanitarian crisis. He also expressed solidarity with the victims’ families, promising Tehran’s support in relief efforts.
