
Pakistani PM Shehbaz Hails Budget Team, Applauds Role in Iran-Israel Ceasefire

ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday commended Pakistan’s economic team for presenting a balanced and forward-looking federal budget for fiscal year 2025–26. He also emphasized Pakistan’s constructive diplomatic role in facilitating the Iran-Israel ceasefire, calling it a significant achievement for regional peace.
Chairing a federal cabinet meeting in Islamabad, the prime minister expressed appreciation for Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb and his team’s efforts in preparing the budget. He also thanked the federal cabinet and coalition partners for their valuable contributions and support.
Lauding the budget preparation process, PM Shehbaz said the 2025–26 federal budget was the result of diligent planning, fiscal responsibility, and a shared vision for economic recovery. He credited the team’s professionalism for ensuring a people-centric and growth-oriented financial framework.
The prime minister also addressed recent Middle East developments, welcoming the ceasefire agreement between Iran and Israel. He termed the truce a “vital step to prevent further regional instability and bloodshed.” Shehbaz Sharif noted that Iran had explicitly acknowledged Pakistan’s pivotal diplomatic role.
“The Iranian leadership publicly thanked Pakistan’s people, armed forces, political parties, and leaders for their support in achieving the ceasefire,” he stated, adding that Iran specifically mentioned the President of Pakistan and the Field Marshal for their efforts.
He noted, also recognizing Saudi Arabia’s pivotal role in facilitating negotiations.
With Muharram approaching, PM Shehbaz directed the Ministry of Interior to coordinate with provincial governments, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir to implement robust law and order measures during religious processions and gatherings.
He emphasized the importance of maintaining sectarian harmony and national unity during the holy month, directing law enforcement agencies to remain vigilant and proactive.
Referring to Iran’s recent attack on Qatar, the prime minister reiterated Pakistan’s strong condemnation of the act, reaffirming the country’s deep-rooted ties with the Qatari nation.
At the beginning of the meeting, the cabinet observed Fateha (prayers) for Major Moeez Abbas Shah, who embraced martyrdom during an anti-terror operation in South Waziristan. The prime minister paid tribute to the fallen soldier, reaffirming Pakistan’s resolve to eliminate terrorism.
