Pakistani PM Shehbaz Orders Rekodiq-Railway Link Completion by 2028

ISLAMABAD — Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has directed authorities to ensure Rekodiq is linked to the national railway network by 2028, highlighting the importance of upgrading transport infrastructure to meet Pakistan’s future cargo demands.

Chairing a high-level meeting focused on Pakistan Railways’ modernization, the Prime Minister emphasized that the Rekodiq railway connection would play a vital role in supporting the country’s mineral exports and generate new employment opportunities in Balochistan.

Inter-Ministerial Committee to Oversee Financing

To facilitate progress, the Prime Minister ordered the formation of an inter-ministerial committee to oversee financing for Pakistan Railways’ development and the proposed Rekodiq link. The committee will be responsible for presenting recommendations on required funding mechanisms.

Focus on Rail Infrastructure Upgrades

During the briefing, officials updated the Prime Minister on the ML-1 and ML-3 railway corridor upgrades, alongside broader modernization efforts within Pakistan Railways.

PM Shehbaz noted that the rail system serves as a critical backbone of the economy, offering a cheaper, faster, and environmentally friendly transport option

Economic Impact for Balochistan

The Prime Minister said that connecting Rekodiq to the railway network would unlock the potential of Balochistan’s mineral sector, drive regional economic development, and improve local livelihoods.
