ISLAMABAD — Pakistani security forces have killed two suspected Indian-backed militants and arrested two others during a high-stakes operation in Balochistan’s Duki district, the military’s media wing said on Sunday.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the intelligence-based raid targeted a reported militant hideout in Duki. An intense firefight broke out during the operation, resulting in the deaths of two militants. Two others were captured alive.

“Security forces recovered weapons, ammunition, and explosives from the Indian-sponsored terrorists, who were actively involved in numerous acts of terrorism in the region,” the ISPR stated.

A subsequent sweep-and-clear operation is underway to locate any remaining threats, the military added.

Balochistan, Pakistan’s largest yet most underdeveloped province, has witnessed decades of separatist violence. The insurgency has intensified recently, with attacks on security forces, government facilities, and non-local residents.

Islamabad has repeatedly accused India of funding and training militants to destabilize Balochistan and other regions, including supporting the banned Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. India has consistently denied these allegations.

The ISPR’s statement follows a devastating suicide bombing on Saturday in North Waziristan, where a militant rammed an explosives-laden vehicle into a Pakistani military convoy, killing at least 13 soldiers. Pakistani authorities blamed India for sponsoring the attack, a charge rejected by New Delhi.

Tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors have escalated in recent months. Just weeks ago, Pakistan and India exchanged missile, drone, and artillery fire for four days following a militant strike in Indian-administered Kashmir, which India claimed was supported by Islamabad — an accusation Pakistan has categorically denied.

The military vowed to continue its efforts to eliminate terrorism and safeguard the region, reiterating Pakistan’s resolve to counter what it called “Indian-sponsored terrorism.”
