Chairperson of the Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians (CWP), Zainab Gimba, highlighted the significance of gender-sensitive legislation during a two-day international workshop titled “Advancing Gender Equality in Legislation: A Workshop on Gender-Sensitive Legislative Drafting.”
The workshop aimed to align legislative practices with international standards, identifying gaps and obstacles in current frameworks through roundtable discussions. It emphasized learning from regional and global experiences to refine legislative drafting skills for gender-sensitive policies.
Gimba lauded Pakistani federal and provincial assemblies, alongside women parliamentarians, for their pivotal role in promoting gender equality. She urged the adoption of best practices across regions to enhance the capacity of legislators, ensuring laws address inequalities effectively and equitably.
The initiative also stressed revising existing legislation, comparing international standards, and eliminating barriers to gender equality within legal systems. Such gatherings are instrumental in equipping parliamentarians worldwide with the tools to champion inclusive governance.
