Partial Ceasefire Talks Collapse; Egypt, Qatar, U.S. Work on 60-Day Gaza Deal

Jerusalem / Cairo — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced on Tuesday that negotiations for a partial hostage-ceasefire deal are “behind us,” signaling an end to the latest round of indirect talks aimed at halting hostilities and securing the release of captives.

Netanyahu’s remarks came amid mounting international pressure to reach a breakthrough in the ongoing conflict. His comments indicate that Israel will not pursue the previously discussed limited truce and hostage exchange arrangement.

While Netanyahu ruled out the partial deal, Egypt confirmed it is working with Qatar and the United States to revive a comprehensive 60-day truce plan. This broader proposal aims to pause hostilities, facilitate humanitarian aid into Gaza, and secure the release of both civilian and military captives.

An Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesperson said the plan could create “the necessary political space” for follow-up negotiations toward a lasting settlement.

In a separate political development, Justice Minister Yariv Levin reportedly locked Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara out of her office, claiming she “has no right to use it.” The move underscores growing tensions within Israel’s political and judicial leadership, further complicating the domestic climate as the conflict continues.

Diplomatic sources say Washington and Doha are encouraging both sides to keep communication channels open, warning that abandoning talks could worsen the humanitarian crisis and hinder future peace efforts.
