Director General of the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA), Muhammad Tahir, announced the authority’s pivotal role in advancing the de-worming campaign that began in Pakistan in 2020. Addressing an awareness symposium organized in partnership with the Pakistan De-Worming Initiative, he highlighted the campaign set to kick off on September 23, 2024, emphasizing the critical involvement of media.
Tahir noted that safeguarding children’s health is a national responsibility and expressed pride in PEMRA’s collaboration in this initiative. He revealed that the chairman eagerly embraced the opportunity to support the campaign when approached in 2020.
The director general acknowledged the long-overlooked issue of intestinal worms, stating that the World Health Organization’s collaboration has reignited focus on this significant health challenge.
He praised the media’s essential contribution, which helped ensure the success of the first phase of the campaign across the federation through robust coverage.
Tahir reiterated that intestinal worms pose a serious threat to children’s mental and physical growth. He emphasized the media’s proactive role in promoting the mission to combat this health issue.
Looking ahead, he confirmed that the upcoming campaign in Sindh will also receive comprehensive media attention, aiming to raise awareness throughout the country.
