
PM Pakistan Arrives in Tianjin for SCO Summit, Xi Meeting

Tianjin, China — Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Tianjin on Saturday to participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Heads of State Summit, along with several high-profile bilateral and multilateral engagements during his official visit to China.
The Prime Minister was warmly received at Tianjin Airport by Sun Meijun, Minister and Secretary of the CPC Committee of China’s General Administration of Customs, Yu Yunlin, Chairman and Party Secretary of the Tianjin Municipal People’s Congress, Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Jiang Zedong, and Pakistan’s Ambassador to China Khalil Hashmi.
The Pakistani delegation includes Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, and other senior officials.
Prime Minister Sharif will address the SCO Council of Heads of State Summit, scheduled from August 31 to September 1, 2025. During his visit, he will also hold bilateral meetings with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang to further enhance the Pakistan-China partnership.
Beyond the summit, the Prime Minister will engage with heads of leading Chinese enterprises to boost bilateral economic ties. He will also chair the Second Pakistan-China B2B Investment Conference in Beijing on September 4, aimed at exploring new opportunities in trade, infrastructure, and technology investments.
He is also expected to hold sideline meetings with leaders of other SCO member states, focusing on strengthening regional cooperation and advancing shared development goals.
Before departing for China, Prime Minister Sharif posted on X (formerly Twitter), describing the trip as a “historic visit.”
“I look forward to meeting President Xi Jinping and other world leaders to enhance regional cooperation, strengthen multilateral ism, and advance shared goals of peace and prosperity,” he wrote.
In addition to the SCO Summit, Prime Minister Sharif will attend events in Beijing marking the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People’s War against Fascism in World War II, underscoring Pakistan’s solidarity with China in celebrating this historic milestone.
