PM Shehbaz Meets President Aliyev in Lachin, Thanks Azerbaijan for Support Amid Regional Tensions

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif met with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in Lachin on Tuesday to reinforce bilateral cooperation and express appreciation for Azerbaijan’s steadfast support during regional tensions.
The high-level meeting took place on the sidelines of the Pakistan-Turkiye-Azerbaijan Trilateral Summit and was attended by senior Pakistani officials, including Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, and PM’s Special Assistant Tariq Fatemi.
During the talks, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulated President Aliyev and the people of Azerbaijan on their Independence Day and praised the deep-rooted friendship between the peoples of Pakistan and Azerbaijan.
He expressed heartfelt gratitude to President Aliyev for Azerbaijan’s unwavering support during Pakistan’s recent standoff with India, noting the strong expression of solidarity from Baku as a reflection of deep fraternal ties.
The two leaders reviewed the full spectrum of bilateral relations, expressing satisfaction over ongoing cooperation in political, economic, defense, and cultural domains. They reiterated their commitment to expanding this cooperation through mutually beneficial investments and strategic collaboration.
Both sides agreed to accelerate the exchange of high-level delegations to further enhance economic ties, with plans for a detailed follow-up meeting between senior officials in the near future.
Prime Minister Sharif praised the symbolism of holding the summit in Lachin, calling it a testament to Azerbaijan’s resilience and rebuilding efforts—sentiments that hold significant emotional and symbolic value for both nations.
The leaders also emphasized the importance of joint efforts to promote regional stability, economic prosperity, and principled positions on key international matters.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both nations reaffirmed their commitment to deepening the Pakistan-Azerbaijan partnership through strategic engagement and collaboration across all levels.
