PM Shehbaz Sharif Addresses UN General Assembly, Criticizes Israeli Actions and Highlights Kashmir Issue

During his address at the 79th United Nations General Assembly in New York, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned what he described as Israel’s ongoing genocide against the Palestinian people. He emphasized the urgent need for action to stop the bloodshed, stating, “Condemnation alone is insufficient; we must put an end to this violence.” He illustrated the humanitarian crisis by highlighting that “Palestinian children are being burned alive” while the international community remains silent.

PM Sharif advocated for a two-state solution to resolve the conflict in Gaza, proposing the establishment of a Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital. He called on the United Nations to grant full membership to Palestine, asserting the necessity of recognizing Palestinian rights.

Turning to the Kashmir issue, he condemned India’s human rights violations in the region, referencing the revocation of its special status on August 5, 2019. He stated that despite Indian oppression, Kashmiris continue to uphold the vision of Burhan Wani. He also accused India of attempting to change the demographic makeup of Kashmir, saying, “By settling non-local individuals, India is trying to diminish the Muslim majority.”

The Prime Minister urged for a solution to the Jammu and Kashmir conflict in line with United Nations resolutions, cautioning that India’s aggressive actions pose a threat to regional peace. He pledged that Pakistan would respond firmly to any aggression from India.

In his remarks, PM Sharif also addressed the security situation in Afghanistan, warning that the presence of extremist groups like ISIS and Al-Qaeda poses a significant risk to peace and stability in the region.
