PM Shehbaz Sharif and UK PM Starmer Strengthen Ties at UNGA Amid Economic and Climate Discussions

In a meeting on Thursday at the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and UK Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Sir Keir Starmer agreed to bolster bilateral relations, particularly in trade and investment sectors.

During their discussions, PM Sharif provided insights into Pakistan’s current economic situation and outlined government initiatives aimed at revitalizing the economy, focusing on Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) tax reforms to expand the tax base.

The prime minister also highlighted the significant challenges posed by climate change, stressing the importance of global cooperation in addressing this pressing issue.

Emphasizing Pakistan’s sacrifices in the fight against terrorism, PM Sharif called for collective international action against the threat. He noted that the UK is Pakistan’s third-largest investor and discussed various investment opportunities available in the country.

Additionally, PM Sharif recognized the critical role of the Pakistani community in the UK, expressing a desire to effectively leverage their contributions for mutual development and growth.
