Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is scheduled to address global leaders on Friday at the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). His speech will highlight pressing regional and global issues, including the Palestine question and the long-standing Jammu and Kashmir dispute.

The prime minister is in the US for a five-day visit, primarily to attend the annual session of the 193-member UN General Assembly. According to the Foreign Office, he will reaffirm Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to multilateralism and the pivotal role of the UN in promoting global peace, security, and prosperity.

In his address, Prime Minister Sharif is expected to emphasize the need for addressing inequities in international economic relations and pushing for reforms in the global financial system. He will also call for decisive global action on climate change and urge the international community to counter the growing wave of Islamophobia.

As Pakistan prepares to assume a seat on the UN Security Council for 2025-26, the prime minister will underscore the country’s commitment to working with all UN member states to uphold the UN Charter, prevent conflicts, foster peace, and promote global prosperity.

Before departing for New York, Prime Minister Shehbaz shared on his X timeline that he anticipates a “busy week of engagements” focused on promoting peace, development, and climate action, as well as representing Pakistan’s interests on the global stage and building stronger international partnerships.

During his interactions with world leaders, international organizations, and his participation in high-level debates, the prime minister is expected to effectively present Pakistan’s position on various regional and global challenges, while advancing the sustainable development agenda.
