Police File Case Against Indian Producer Ekta Kapoor, Shobha Kapoor

Indian Film Producers Ekta Kapoor and Shobha Kapoor of Alt Balaji Telefilms are facing legal action after Mumbai Police registered a case against them under the POCSO Act. The move comes after a Borivali court ordered the registration, following a complaint from yoga instructor Swapneel Riwaji.

The complaint claims that three of Alt Balaji’s web series, including “Class of 2017” and “Class of 2020,” contain explicit scenes featuring minors. It alleges that underage actors, dressed in school uniforms, were depicted in inappropriate and suggestive scenarios, sparking concerns about the portrayal of minors in the series.

The police have invoked various sections of the POCSO Act, including Sections 13 and 15, along with provisions of the Information Technology Act (Section 67(a)), the Women Prohibition Act, and Sections 292, 293, and 295(a) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). These charges aim to address the misuse of minors, explicit content, and ensure protection standards are upheld.

The case underscores the increasing scrutiny over the depiction of sensitive content involving minors in digital media, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding their rights and well-being.
