Pope Francis will visit Corsica on December 15, marking his first trip to the picturesque French island. The whirlwind journey focuses on celebrating popular religious traditions and addressing challenges facing the Mediterranean region.
The Pope will participate in the Conference on Popular Religiosity in the Mediterranean, organized by Cardinal François-Xavier Bustillo. The event, attended by over 400 delegates, highlights faith’s role in uniting cultures around the Mediterranean.
During his visit, Pope Francis will meet local clergy at Ajaccio’s Santa Maria Assunta Cathedral, followed by a public Mass at Place d’Austerlitz, where 7,000 faithful are expected. His itinerary also includes a private discussion with French President Emmanuel Macron.
The visit, taking place just days before the Pope’s 88th birthday, reinforces his dedication to faith, dialogue, and addressing regional issues like migration and environmental crises.
