Pope Francis Makes First Public Appearance Since Hospitalization

Pope Francis has been seen publicly for the first time since his hospitalization last month due to double pneumonia. The 88-year-old pontiff participated in Holy Mass at the Gemelli Hospital chapel in Rome on Sunday morning, marking a significant moment in his recovery.

The Vatican released an image of the Pope seated during the service, confirming his stable condition. Officials stated that he continues to receive motor and respiratory physiotherapy, which has contributed to his gradual recovery.

He has also resumed light work, and his condition will be further evaluated in the coming days,” a Vatican spokesperson said.

Pope Francis has now spent over four weeks in the hospital, having been admitted on February 14 due to a severe respiratory infection that later developed into double pneumonia. His illness initially sparked concerns about his health and leadership, but medical reports indicate steady progress and positive response to treatment.

Earlier in March, despite his hospitalization, the Pope virtually joined the Vatican’s annual Lenten retreat. Although he was able to hear and see the session’s preacher, clergy in the Vatican auditorium could not see or hear him.

Doctors remain cautious about his fragile health and have not provided a discharge date. However, they have reassured the public that Pope Francis is no longer in critical condition and continues to make steady progress toward recovery.
