Islamabad – The Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) has advised domestic and international tourists visiting northern Pakistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to strictly follow safety guidelines during the monsoon season, as heavy rains, flooding, and glacier melting increase risks in hilly areas.
A PTDC spokesperson stressed that precautionary measures are essential for safe and enjoyable travel. Tourists have been urged to remain updated on weather conditions, road status, and local authority instructions before setting out on their journeys.
“A trip only becomes memorable when it is safe—for yourself and for others,” the official said, cautioning travelers against negligence during unpredictable weather.
Key Safety Guidelines for Tourists
- Check weather updates and road conditions before departure.
- Plan routes and hotel bookings in advance to avoid last-minute inconvenience.
- Travel during daylight hours—preferably starting in the morning and reaching destinations before sunset.
- Avoid reckless driving, stick to lanes, and be mindful of traffic on narrow mountain roads.
- Get sufficient rest before long journeys to stay alert.
- In case of emergencies, tourists can call 1122 or 1422 for assistance.
The PTDC noted that tourist inflows to mountain resorts and scenic valleys have significantly increased, causing heavy traffic congestion on narrow routes. Drivers have been urged to exercise patience and avoid dangerous overtaking.
Despite the challenges, Pakistan’s northern areas remain a major tourist attraction, offering unique landscapes, rich culture, and unmatched natural beauty. PTDC emphasized that adopting safety measures will ensure tourists enjoy their experiences without unnecessary risks.
