Putin Accuses Western Elites of Disrupting Russia-US Normalization Efforts
Russian President Vladimir Putin has claimed that certain “Western elites” are attempting to obstruct efforts to normalize relations between Russia and the United States. Speaking at the headquarters of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) in Moscow on the occasion of Special Operations Forces Day, Putin emphasized that while both Russia and the US are open to cooperation, external forces are working to derail the process.
Putin stated that recent diplomatic engagements between Moscow and Washington indicate a willingness to move beyond past tensions. He acknowledged the approach taken by the US administration under President Donald Trump, describing it as “pragmatic and realistic.” The Russian leader highlighted ongoing diplomatic talks in Istanbul aimed at resolving issues related to the operations of diplomatic missions.
“Not everyone is pleased with these developments,” Putin remarked, pointing to what he described as deliberate attempts by Western elites to hinder the dialogue. He instructed Russian intelligence agencies to counteract such efforts and ensure the progress of diplomatic negotiations.
During his speech, Putin reiterated Russia’s readiness for peace talks concerning the Ukrainian conflict. He emphasized that Moscow remains open to broader discussions on establishing a European security framework that considers the interests of all stakeholders, including Russia.
Putin also claimed that foreign intelligence activities within Russia had escalated since the onset of the Ukraine conflict. He directed security services to remain vigilant and take necessary countermeasures.
