Putin Declares 2025 as the Year of the Defender of the Fatherland

Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree officially declaring 2025 as the “Year of the Defender of the Fatherland.” The announcement, which was made public on a government legal acts website, follows a meeting of the State Council in December 2024, where Putin discussed the initiative.

The move is significant, as 2025 also marks the 80th anniversary of the victory in World War II, a pivotal moment in Russian history. The decree outlines the creation of an organizing committee and a directorate tasked with coordinating events throughout the year to honor the defenders of the nation.

Additionally, the decree advises regional leaders to ensure the successful implementation of activities that align with the themes of the Year of the Defender of the Fatherland, emphasizing the importance of national pride and historical remembrance in 2025.
