MOSCOW — Russian President Vladimir Putin has asserted that Iranian society is rallying around its leadership amid Israel’s military offensive, countering claims from Israeli officials about the potential for regime change in Tehran.
Speaking to international media during a roundtable with global news agencies on Thursday, Putin emphasized Iran’s internal unity, stating, “We see that today in Iran, with all the complexity of the internal political processes… there is a consolidation of society around the country’s political leadership.”
The remarks came in response to a question referencing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s statement suggesting that regime change in Iran could be an outcome of Israel’s recent military operations. Putin rejected this view, underlining the resilience of Iran’s government and its popular support during a time of heightened regional tensions.
In addition to political matters, the Russian president addressed concerns about the safety of Iran’s nuclear infrastructure. He stated that Iran’s underground uranium enrichment facilities remain untouched despite the ongoing conflict.
“These underground factories, they exist, nothing has happened to them,” Putin told reporters, referring to sites that have come under threat from Israeli strikes in recent days.
Putin reiterated Russia’s long-standing position that a peaceful resolution should be pursued — one that considers the security interests of both Iran and Israel. He warned against unilateral military actions that risk destabilizing the broader Middle East.
