Russian President Vladimir Putin and former U.S. President Donald Trump held a phone call on Saturday, addressing the intensifying Israel-Iran conflict and the ongoing Ukraine war, with Moscow offering to mediate to ease regional tensions, the Kremlin confirmed.

The Kremlin said the escalating military confrontation between Israel and Iran was at the forefront of the discussion. The call followed Israel’s recent strikes on Iranian targets and Iran’s retaliatory missile attacks, raising fears of a broader Middle East conflict.

Putin stated that Russia was prepared to act as a mediator between the two nations, underscoring Moscow’s diplomatic efforts to prevent further escalation. Both leaders expressed concern over the violence but acknowledged the possibility of resuming negotiations on Iran’s nuclear program, signaling cautious diplomatic optimism.

During the call, President Putin updated Trump on the progress made during the June 2 meeting between Russian and Ukrainian delegates in Istanbul. He noted that Russia remained committed to continuing peace negotiations after June 22.

Trump welcomed Russia’s willingness to continue dialogue and reaffirmed his support for a swift and peaceful resolution to the conflict. The Kremlin highlighted this as part of ongoing efforts to restore constructive U.S.-Russia communication channels.

The call concluded with Putin congratulating Trump on his birthday. Both leaders also highlighted the historical “brotherhood in arms” between Russia and the United States during World War II, referencing their shared wartime legacy.

A day before his call with Trump, Putin held separate conversations with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. He condemned Israel’s airstrikes as violations of international law and the UN Charter.

Putin again reiterated Moscow’s willingness to provide mediation services, aiming to prevent further escalation in the region.
